Hello all!

So, I’ve done it again. It’s been a particularly busy semester and because of this my posting has slowed. This doesn’t mean that there hasn’t been plenty to post about. I’ve had some wonderful opportunities and experiences in the past few months so today I thought I would do a quick recap.

Let’s see – what has been going on:

I got to meet Design*Sponge superstar, the lovely Grace Bonney. She had a book signing here and it was a delightful event complete with champagne!

I attended the American Printing History Association conference in San Diego – my first time on the West Coast!

Hamilton Wayzgoose (remember the giant post from last year?) happened again and was again awesome.

In addition to these particular events I’ve been cranking it out in my studio and planning new Made by Good products.

So, like I said, it’s been busy. I know though that as soon as winter break rolls around I’ll be posting regularly again! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and I’ll be back on here soon. Enjoy these images and happy Monday!

One day this weekend (oh no! it’s that time of the school year already where days are getting confused) I got a lovely e-mail from Kathryn Hunter of Blackbird Letterpress in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. My Aunt Kathy has been a regular customer there for about three years or so and happened to send Kathryn to my blog. Included in the lovely e-mail was a link to the Ladies of Letterpress website. I had heard the name of the organization but for some reason had yet to explore what it really was about. Well, let me tell you – it is AWESOME. Ladies of Letterpress was founded by printers Jessica C. White and Kseniya Thomas (see picture above). When you sign up you create a profile that includes information like website, type of press used, number of years printing, company name etc. And then, once your profile is approved, you have access to this amazing web of lady printers. The slogan for Ladies of Letterpress is “dedicated to the proposition that a woman’s place is in the print shop.” Love it.

For me, this is just another example of the strength and breadth of the letterpress community. On the website there are discussions happening, photos being posted, blogs going up – there are so many great printers and I’m so glad now to have my profile up among them.

Today it is gray and yucky outside so, this post is not about today but the string of beautiful days we had last week.

I’ve totally decided that the brief bit of fall we have here is my favorite time in Chicago. When it’s cool and sunny the city is really marvelous. Saturday afternoon I went over to my friend Boo’s house and sat on the porch playing with her darling dog and chatting and soaking in the crisp sweater wearing weather.

So, today is a day of life appreciating photos of the season and good friends and likable dogs!

So, I know I have more posting to do about Renegade but in the meantime I wanted to let you know that I am now an official blogger for Graduate Admissions at Columbia College. Once a week, I’ll be posting enthusiastically and passionately about all things Book and Paper.

So, I’m so excited that this year I was able to attend Renegade Craft Fair. It was such a fun time! Remember last year when I was so excited and then ended up having to work?! I was so disappointed. Thank goodness for Monday through Friday classes and jobs this year!

I think the best way to distribute the massive amount of photos I took is to do a general post today followed by posts about some of the specific vendors that blew my mind later in the week.

As per usual once the school year has started, I have already gotten behind on the blog. But I am going to try really hard this year not let too much time go by in between posts! The good news is that I will be blogging weekly over at school on the Graduate Ambassador blog. This means that once a week I’ll be posting about the goings on of the Book and Paper Arts department. As soon as I have the official web address for that I’ll let y’all know!

I always love the beginning of a school year and I had this realization yesterday that it was my second to last first day of school ever. How strange time is!

This week, I wanted to share one of my favorite blogs with you Book By Its Cover. BBIC features sketchbooks, artist books, and other cool bookish things. Recently, a book Drawn In was made by the blog’s author, with some of the best features from the blog. I always check here for inspiration. I love seeing other artists’ sketchbooks, a peek into their minds.

Recently I joined the Letterpress Listserv and it has been great watching e-mails fly back and forth between letterpress lovers from all over the country and world.

The other day I received an e-mail about a new website called We Love Letterpress. It exists as an awesome open resource for printers and lovers of print work from all over the world. Anybody who makes letterpress printed work can submit a simple interview describing what they do and why they love letterpress. They can also add images and provide contact information. Some of my favorite printing folks are on there including Mama’s Sauce and Huldra Press! I’ve had a lot of fun reading all of the interviews.

They also post inspiration boards and information about printing events!
